Supervisors approved a personal property tax exemption for Fraenkel Co. of Olive Branch, where managers cited a $522,000 expansion and plans to bring in as many as nine more employees …A real and property tax exemption was issued to Guardian, a fiberglass maker for more than 25 years in Olive Branch.  He projects about 30 new jobs … “I find it remarkable that in this down economy, that anybody’s growing,” said (DeSoto County) board president Bill Russell.
Mitch Stennett, president of the Economic Development Authority of Jones County, delivered his take on the local economy Monday night before a meeting of the Laurel-Jones County Property Owners Association.

The Choctaw County Economic Development District announced an option agreement has been formalized with an unspecified renewable power developer for the purposes of conducting due diligence on the Red Hills EcoPlex site.

Mississippi Power will break ground for its new $2.4 billion state-of-the-art electric power plant in Kemper County December 16.

The Mississippi Public Service Commission has given its approval to the construction of an electric power plant at the Golden Triangle Regional Solid Waster Authority landfill in Clay County.

Mississippi Republican U.S. Sens. Roger Wicker and Thad Cochran on Friday announced they’ve included in larger tax extension legislation provisions to extend the deadline to award and sell Gulf Opportunity Zone, or GoZone, bonds in Mississippi, Louisiana and Alabama from this Dec. 31 to Jan. 1, 2012.


Several candidates for transportation commissioner say they want to improve four-lane highways to boost north Mississippi’s prospects for economic development.

Eight candidates filed qualifying papers by Friday’s deadline to run for the state legislative seat vacated by U.S. Rep.–elect Steven Palazzo.

When the MDA and Honan’s group put together the package to bring DG to the region, they were required to provide employment for 200 workers. Honan said the company currently employs around 450.

The availability of land is one of several reasons Nammo chose Lowndes County … Mullis credits the Columbus-Lowndes Development Link with attracting the manufacturer.  East Mississippi Community College’s work force training program also played a huge part.
